Emergency Albuterol Administration

Overview 


This self-paced online course equips school staff with the knowledge and skills to recognize asthma-related respiratory distress and administer stock albuterol safely and effectively. Participants will learn to identify asthma symptoms, follow an Asthma Action Plan, apply DC Health’s emergency protocol, and properly document and report incidents. Through interactive scenarios, voice-narrated guidance, and a final assessment, staff will be prepared to respond confidently during asthma emergencies.

Target Audience


Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and dentists who care for elderly populations in an ambulatory setting.

Through this course, participants will learn:

  1. The basics of asthma
  2. The signs & symptoms of respiratory distress
  3. Procedure for the emergency administration of albuterol
  4. Maintaining stock of undesignated emergency albuterol 
  5. School protocols for administering emergency albuterol 
  6. Reporting the use of Emergency Albuterol to DC Health
