Learning Objectives

Through this course, participants will learn:

  • Understand the basic pathophysiology of diabetes and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
  • Explain how glucagon works to treat a person experiencing a severe hypoglycemic event.
  • Use school records to identify students diagnosed with diabetes and recognize the symptoms of a severe hypoglycemic event.
  • Demonstrate the correct technique for administering glucagon nasal spray.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of post administration care and side effects of glucagon.
  • Describe maintenance and storage of the undesignated glucagon medication.
  • Promptly inform student’s responsible person and school health staff of administration of undesignated glucagon medication.
  • Report administration of undesignated glucagon and requesting medication restock from DC Health.
